I woke around 7am and Wayne was awake by 7:30am. We were out the door by 8:30am and we took the Metro to the Spanish Steps. This was a great place to start our day.
We saw lots of locals at a coffee shop so we went in. Wayne ordered at the counter but you had to pay first. When he went to pay, the guy asked if we wanted to sit outside (which I did) but since Wayne had already ordered we just stood at the counter like the locals and by standing, it ended up saving us 4 euros. They charge a lot more to sit at a table.
We walked to Trevi fountain which I love.
Then to the Pantheon which is one of my favourite building in Rome. Before going in we saw a little bakery and got a pastry each and sat outside the Pantheon to eat it.
Then walked to Piazza Navona.
By now it was really sunny and warm and humid (28C), so we walked around trying to find a cafe in the shade. We found one on a little side street and after walking around the Piazza for a while we stopped there for lunch and had bruschetta, pizza and beer.
Next stop was the Vatican. We didn't go in but just walked around St. Peters Square. There were lots of people there and the line to go in was crazy.
We then just walked not really looking at the map. I love just walking down the wonderful little cobblestone streets! We finally wanted to stop for a beer and we came across this Piazza with a market going on. We thought this would be a good place to stop. It turned out to be Campi de Fiori.
More walking and we came to the Teatro Marcello.
We arrived back at our B&B at 4:30pm - lots of walking today!
My feet wanted to rest so spent a while just relaxing.
Around 7:30pm we headed out for dinner. We went to a place just down the street and decided to have something besides pizza. We both had bruschetta and pasta. We then walked to the nearby gelato place for more delicious gelato!
We went back to the B&B and packed to get ready for our flight home in the morning.
We saw so much of Rome today. It really is a great city! Today was a wonderful end to a great vacation!
Tomorrow - Rome, Italy then Frankfurt, Germany and finally Halifax, NS and home.
