May 27, 2012 Naples, Italy

Naples, Italy

We were up at 7:30am and ready to leave by 8:30am but the ship had not been cleared yet. The ship was cleared by 8:45am and we were off by 9am.

We bought the all day tram/train ticket. The guy selling the tickets tried to get us to pay the weekday price not the weekend rate by saying he only had the weekday tickets left. I knew the price and would not pay double price. When I said I would just buy the tram ticket he suddenly had a weekend ticket...

We took the tram to the train and then took the train to Sorrento. I love Sorrento! It is a lovely little Italian town with lots of charm.

It was busy today with 4 ships in port. We walked and shopped for a while and then for lunch stopped at another cute cafe and had bruschetta and beer. The best bruschetta ever!!

We caught the 2pm train to Pompeii. We walked around a very crowded Pompeii for almost 2 hours. It was very busy with lots of tour groups.

We then headed back to Naples. We arrived around 5:30pm and stopped at a pizzeria near the port and had a beer and a Margherita pizza - the original pizza invented in Naples. It was delicious!

We were back on board by 6:15pm with an all on board of 6:30pm (the Captain gave us all an extra 1/2 hour since the ship was late clearing in the morning.

Went to the farewell show and then a very quick game of trivia.

Back to the cabin to pack and then down to the Promenade Cafe to meet up with the gang to exchange info and plan a dinner for Monday evening in Rome.

Tomorrow - Rome, Italy and goodbye to Mariner of the Seas.
